The fastest growing ministry at Open Arms Life Church is Mission Possible Youth Group. Mission Possible started in October of 2010. Prior to that there wasn’t a youth ministry at OALC. It all started with a small group of 7 teenagers who were baptized at our church. Led by Pastor Elizabeth Vera, this group of teenagers got so excited about starting their own youth group that they started inviting their friends from school. Before we knew it we were getting groups of 20 youth or more at our Thursday night youth service. Today, Mission Possible has a weekly attendance of 40 or more. This group is diverse and goes beyond who we thought we were. There are no limits with regard to race, ethnicity, or language. This youth comes from diverse backgrounds and truly represents the mosaic that is the body of Christ. Today MP is more than just Jr. High and High School youth. College aged young people are starting to come in as well. We are very thankful to the Lord for the way that He has blessed this ministry and are humbled by the way He is giving influence to this group as these young people go out as mission minded believers to win their communities for the Lord. If you’ve not yet visited, we encourage you to come and experience, MISSION POSSIBLE. This experience has taught us that the mission is truly possible. Mission Possible is God’s response to the greatest commission of them all, the great commission! The great commission is - truly possible!

As evangelical believers of a Pentecostal persuasion, we often emphasize the role of the Holy Spirit in corporate worship. We make much about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the gift of speaking in tongues and of the other spiritual gifts. We understand that, as the Bible teaches, these spiritual gifts are for the corporate good of the church and it is essential to understand these things; however, what about the Holy Spirit’s role in your personal life? Is he only there to empower you to preach and pray for others? Is he there to make you effective in ministry and evangelism? Of course, we can agree that the third person of the Trinity is there to empower you, make you efficient, and even embolden you for ministry yet it’s important to understand the inner work of the Holy Spirit as He fills you with His fruit so that you can model the life of Jesus Christ and not only the power of Jesus Christ. It’s important to understand that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are not a measure of your spiritual life. Yet, the fruit of the Spirit is.
During this series, “the Holy Spirit and personal life” we will explore the role that the Holy Spirit has in the inner work of your soul and character. It is He and He alone that can perform the inner spiritual surgery that many of us need to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ. This seven week series is the 2nd on this important topic in Christian maturity.
These studies are happening every Tuesday night at 7:30 PM and will be given by a team of students.

Soon our pastor Edgar will be doing a sermon series on the book of Genesis. Genesis is probably one of the most popular books of the Bible. Even those who are not churched and have never read the Bible with any degree of seriousness likely know that the book of Genesis is in there! It seems fair to say that a lot of Americans have at least a casual knowledge of Genesis. But how do we get past a casual understanding of Genesis and accept it for what it really is – God’s word? The stories of Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the flood, aren’t just cute Sunday school stories to entertain children, or myth or even worse, fables! They make up part of the bedrock of God’s word. Pastor Edgar will approach Genesis with the conviction that an understanding of this book is critical to an understanding of the Bible as a whole. Without Genesis, there would be no understanding of the incommunicable attributes of God, the original sin of man, the covenant nature of God and His selection of a people. Genesis is the undertone upon which the picture of redemption is painted. It will be an exciting journey! For some it will bring back the truth of those stories we learned as children in Sunday school, for others it will be an encounter with God’s truth freshly discovered. Stay tuned, and don’t miss it!

ASUNTOS DE ETICA - PARTE I
UNA PERSPECTIVA DE LA VIDA PRE-NATAL
(Lic. Edgar Vera, Pastor - Predicado desde el pulpito de la Iglesia Cristiana Brazos Abiertos, enero 2011)
PROPOSITO Y INTRODUCCION
